Taul “Toy Crusher” Waters is a Jacksonville, Florida–based artist whose practice evolved the way street knowledge usually does: illegally, obsessively, and with a sense of humor sharp enough to draw blood. He cut his teeth in graffiti and illustration, learning early how to communicate fast, loud, and without permission. That foundation expanded into graphic design, painting, digital illustration, and blogging—each medium treated as another surface to disrupt, remix, or interrogate. His work balances discipline with defiance, blending professional execution with the residue of alley walls, sketchbooks, and long nights spent refining ideas that refused to behave. Taul draws inspiration from hip hop culture, drum and bass rhythms, science fiction, horror, skateboard graphics, and the kind of absurd life experiences you only understand after surviving them. More recently, his exploration of synthography has pushed his visual language into stranger territory, where machines collaborate in the chaos rather than clean it up. Darkly comical and deliberately confrontational, his work invites viewers to laugh first, think second, and then realize they’ve been implicated the entire time.

Episode 25: Body Rock

You ever notice that absolutely NO ONE else has named their child Oprah?...

I realize by jumping ahead to Christmas this early it makes me look like the Black male version of a Karen, but you gotta hand it to the photographer - they knew exactly when to snap the photo. If "Unbothered by Old Dudes in Costumes" was a person, it would've been me right there in that moment...

FREESTYLES FROM 2002

Imagine believing you're a fancy illustrator using stock markers; like, the ones you can buy at Walgreens. The ones parents buy for their kids to do school assignments with. Well, clearly I believed it. Whole heartedly. I believed it so hard that I'm posting them here for you all to gander at. Around 2002 - by the time I drew these - I'd quit drinking and probably had visited Miami more times than I should have. That city is actually the reason I quit drinking, but anywhoo...

It is - quite literally - the end of an era...

RIP REGENCY SQUARE MALL

From JAX TDY:
A crane is shown tearing down a mall building surrounded by a chain-link fence. Realco Recycling Co. Inc. has started demolishing the East Mall of Regency Square between Impact Church and the former JC Penney department store at 9501 Arlington Expresssway. It began at the food court area on the north side of the mall. | Karen Brune Mathis, Jacksonville Daily Record
"Demolition begins on Regency Square Mall By Karen Brune Mathis - Jacksonville Daily Record Published on September 14, 2026 at 11:33 am Free local news and info, in your inbox at 6 a.m. M-F. Sign up for the Jacksonville Today newsletter.

Demolition of what began as the Southeast’s largest enclosed and air conditioned shopping mall began Sunday.

By the time demolition is completed, Regency Square Mall might be circling the 60th anniversary of its grand opening on March 2, 1966.

The city issued a permit Aug. 28 for Realco Recycling Co. Inc. to demolish the East Mall between Impact Church and the former JC Penney department store at the 9501 Arlington Expresssway property.

I battled other b-boys, attempted to talk to girls, boosted tapes, hung out at the food court, got accused by an old lady of "brushing up against her", bought mad shoes, and mistakenly ate at the Cinnabon at this mall. Way before the Town Center and even The Avenues, Regency was the only other spot - beside 5 Points - where you could run into anyone who was Jacksonville famous and sometimes watch them get jumped. Losing The Landing was already a gut shot, but they went ahead and took out Regency as well. Can't say I didn't see this coming, though. That place has been empty like Pic N Save for a while now. Still sad and kinda weird to see it go.

I can honestly say I never thought I'd find this show so accessible...

WATCH CHAPPELLE'S SHOW FOR FREE ON TUBI
"Comedian Dave Chappelle hosts this sketch-comedy show that parodies many of the nuances of race and culture."
>>> WATCH THE SHOW HERE <<<

Turns out, after doing some looking around, this show is posted everywhere. Literally. You could pay one of these platforms to watch it, or you could pay Tubi in your data to watch it for free (not like someone doesn't already have it anyway). I hadn't watched it in years, so I went through it one weekend and it's still the gold standard for sketch comedy shows. The musical guests were classic and he knew exactly where to point according to the zeitgeist of that era. If, for some God forsaken reason, you've never watched this show, please do so immediately.

This is one of those horror franchises that really surprised me with it's longevity...

V/H/S/MIXTAPE

From Bloody Disgusting:
"‘V/H/S/MIXTAPE’ Announced for October 2026 Premiere on Shudder!

The V/H/S franchise will be tackling the SCP Foundation with V/H/S: SCP in the near future, but that’s not actually the next installment in Shudder’s found footage franchise.

Directors for the music-themed V/H/S/MIXTAPE include Ernest Dickerson (Demon Knight), Flying Lotus (Ash), Ghost’s Tobias Forge, David Moreau (MadS), RZA and Renee Zhan, with the film featuring GWAR and effects from Jim Henson’s Creature Shop."

Make no mistake, I don't mean that the first film wasn't good - it was great - and every film in the series subsequent to that one held up lovely. The consistency is what really surprises me, because it's gotta be difficult to come with the freakshows and gore this franchise is known for and never falter. For those of us who grew up in the VHS era, it's nostalgia mixed in with fright. For those who weren't, it's a glimpse by concept into those ancient times of lore. Again, if you haven't seen ANY of these films, I'd start with the first and work your way up from there. Your movie nights will never be the same.

I'm in the camp of "I need to know what happens after Brad Pitt somehow figures out what 4 of the worlds top scientists couldn't"...

WORLD WAR Z SEQUEL IN THE WORKS

From The Hollywood Reporter:
" Brad Pitt and the zombies are back, baby.

After more than a decade of false starts, Paramount is finally closing in on making a sequel to its surprise 2013 hit World War Z.

Pitt is set to return to topline the feature that also has Edward Berger, the German filmmaker behind All Quiet on the Western Front and Conclave, on board to direct.

Pitt, Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner will produce via their Plan B Entertainment banner while Berger will exec produce. Dennis Kelly, who won a Tony for writing the book for Matilda: The Musical and has created several British thriller series, wrote the script. "

People talked a lot of trash about this film because the adaptation was nothing like the book. I can agree, if the movie was adapted in the fashion that was presented in the book it would have made for a much more visceral zombie film; I wouldn't go so far as to say that World War Z was a bad film, though. Remember, this was the second time we saw zombies run; the first time we saw them run faster than we could escape. The film had a rhythm and what added to the art was the fact that you didn't see a ton of blood - it was mostly suggested. I'm looking forward to it because - and I'm calling it right now - they're going to take the fight to the snow...

There's body horror, and then there's this absolute juggernaut of a grimace party...

THE SUBSTANCE TRAILER

I'ma go ahead and say this: don't play around with your lunch if you plan on watching this. You will lose it. I expected this to be good because I've yet to find a bad review written or spoken about it. What I didn't expect was to turn away in disgust so many times from so many scenes. Call me what you want, but once this freak show gets going it's straight up relentless. If you ever hear me say I'm a die hard fan of Demi Moore, I'm lying. I've only seen her in GI Jane, The Seventh Sign, and Ghost, but she was good in those so it goes without saying that this is a huge jump. Some other fun facets of this one are the Kubrick references and shouts to 80's sci fi. Just make sure you have a bucket ready by the final act, 'cause I'm telling you...

Arguably one of De La's best albums is now on iTunes!...

Even though I'd give the number one spot to "De La Soul Is Dead", "Stakes Is High" came about at a time when hip hop in Jacksonville was mostly underground, the epicenter of culture was 5 Points, and most of the people practicing any of The Elements were beginning to enter early adulthood. We basically matured right along with De La's style and I gotta say it felt unprecedented. Now that I've typed that I kinda feel geriatric - but in the best way.

It's about that time again for me to skidaddle, but before I do...
